Nature is truly the best classroom! Here’s a great example - Check out this video that our RHW friends made during their adventure with homeschooling!
Favorite past times and outdoor activities often get passed down through generations, but sometimes we need a gentle reminder to recall those little things. For example, collecting leaves and making leaf rubbings with crayons, or turning an acorn cap into a whistle. Can you think of some of those small things that don't take much effort or skill but still manage to create family fun? |

* Nature Journaling *
Choose one of your favorite places in nature, whether it's in your backyard, a trail, pond, etc. Visit this place for a period of time each day and focus on your senses.
Stop, pause, and look around. What do you hear? What do you see? How do you feel? Free write or draw in a journal to capture these moments. When you continue to visit this same spot, notice the changes that are happening. Some may be so small that most people would overlook it, and some so obvious and apparent but nevertheless interesting. Where is your favorite spot to observe and reflect? |
Pack up a little bag with watercolor paints/brushes, pencils, a journal and an envelope to collect ‘interesting nature bits and bobs’ and head outside for a mini adventure. Children (and adults) of ALL ages can create nature journals! Click here for more information on how to start a nature journal.
